JANET CORRAL PHOTOGRAPHY
Hello and welcome. My name is Janet and I am a photographer.
I have always seen life through a different lens. As a Cuban refugee growing up in the diversity and cultural melting pot that is Miami, I was drawn from an early age to graphic arts and photography as a way of communicating. Images were quite the way to deal with the language barrier in a multilingual family and community.
My mother was an artist and, being the youngest of four children, I would spend many days with her in the studio while I drew pictures of animals and houses. During my teen years, I discovered photography and was immediately drawn to street photography and the houses found on those streets. Rendering an image quickly became my passion.
Straight out of high school, I worked at the Graphic Arts department at Columbia Pictures Publications and founded my own sign company while pursuing my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and Minor in Art History at Florida International University. Before graduating, I also received a Meritorious Award for my color photography series of historic shotgun houses in Coconut Grove's Bahamian district, taken in the early 1990s.
My work today includes marketing, architectural photography, and graphic arts.
